Merle Erickson is a Professor of Accounting at the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago. He is co-author of the widely used textbook “Taxes and Business Strategy.” His research focuses on the role of tax and GAAP accounting in various contexts including: mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, investments, accounting fraud, employee stock options, and backdating of employee stock options. He is also a co-editor of the Journal of Accounting Research. He teaches tax based and GAAP based executive education courses for corporations and professional firms. He has consulted with government entities, corporations, investment banks and individuals on a variety of complex tax and GAAP issues. He has testified in U.S. Tax Court, the Federal Court of Claims and in Bankruptcy Court on both tax and GAAP issues.
